SoundStop Plywood

SoundStop is a plywood sandwich panel with a vinyl sound barrier inner layer. The inner layer is composed of polymers filled with the natural mineral barium sulphate.

Performances and applications

SoundStop is designed as a wall and floor panel for yacht, ship, bus building, partition walls, enclosures etc. SoundStop very effective sound insulation properties are due to the low coincidence dip resonance as found in most common lightweight composites.

Technical Specifications

General properties and tolerances (ex factory)
Thickness: 15 mm
Standard sizes: 2500 X 1530 mm
Squareness: ±0.25% of the length of the diagonal
Moisture content: between 6% and 10%
Density: 1025 kg/cbm ±10%

Other properties

Glue line: Water and waterproof gluing using Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) resins.
Face: Tropical hardwood face veneers present a solid surface that is free from open defects. They are free of knots other than occasional sparse "sound pin" knots. The veneers are reasonably free from irregular grain. Face veneers are BB/BB and their thickness is between 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm.
Core Veneers: Tropical hardwood core veneers have the same basic requirements as face veneers, except that small splits may occur, and there is no limit on the number of pin knots or edge joints. Core veneer thickness is between 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm. The centre layer is a 3.6 mm vinyl sound barrier mat composed of polymers filled with the natural mineral barium sulphate free of lead, unrefined oils and bitumen.
Finishing: All boards are sanded on both sides equally.

Performance characteristics and standards compliance

Standards: Meets the requirements of EN 13986:2004+A1.
Bonding quality: Class 3 (EN 314-2)
Durability (humidity): Class 3 - External use as non-structural components (EN 636)
Formaldehyde class: E1
Reaction to fire: class D-s2, d0
